Notre Dame announces the launching of Pray at ND

Please visit pray.nd.edu, a new site recently launched by the Alumii Association. Here you can request a prayer at the Grotto, order a Mass card, and experience the sacred places on campus through a music video that changes weekly. Start your day with a prayer written by a Holy Cross priest; read the Gospel of the day, and discover ways to live that Gospel at work and at home. Let us light our green Alumni grotto candle for you, your family, and friends. We hope you’ll share this site with your club members, classmates, parish community, and of course, all your relatives!

From Kathleen Sullivan - Senior Director, Spirituality in Service for the Alumni Association

Based on the daily reflections of pray.nd.edu, Kathleen Sullivan's new book I Had Lunch with God: Gospel Inspirations for Tough Times, offers penetrating, challenging, and consoling meditations on Gospel events echoed in stories from our world today. FATHER CORBY'S "FAVOR GRANTED" AT LOURDES
Without it the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto would not exist at Notre Dame

There are many "Gems" on campus that lift our spirit - The beautiful Basilica of the Sacred Heart and our Lady's chapel behind the main alter. The main building with its Golden Dome. And of course the "Grotto" with its cave of candles. Have you ever wondered how the Grotto came to be built?  The history of the relationship between Holy Cross Priests and the Holy Cross Sisters began in 1843, forty six years before the grotto was built in the spring of 1896. The Holy Cross sisters and their development of St. Mary's had an impact on the Holy Cross priests. This relationship had a significant role in the Grotto being built and on the University itself.

Dorothy Corson works at Notre Dame in the Archives Department. She spent ten years researching the history of the Grotto, and in 2000 published her research called  A Cave of Candles: The Story Behind the Notre Dame Grotto. She was aware of the 'favor granted' theory but never could document its validity. To her amazement, additional material became available which answered the question.

To read more about this click on this link A Cave of Candles. There are 7 individual booklets, 41 pages in total where the answer of the "favor granted" and all that it involved is explained.  Hope you agree this is fascinating reading.
